  • This workshop gives an insight into a key philosophical teaching behind yoga. The Yoga Sutras consist of condensed nuggets of wisdom set out in four chapters. Chapter two of The Yoga Sutras sets out the path of yoga as an eightfold path made up of:
    • Yama – our attitudes towards others
    • Niyama – our attitude towards one’s self
    • Asana – postures
    • Pranayama – breathing exercises
    • Pratyahara – discipline of the senses
    • Dharana – steadiness of mind
    • Dhyana – meditation
    • Samadhi – the settle mind
  • Come and journey a little deeper into your Yoga practice! You will have the opportunity to experience various mudras (gestures that direct energy internally), mantras (chants), pranayama (breathing techniques) and discover the nature and effect of the Chakras (energy centres). Some of these practices will be incorporated into a slow-flow asana practice, designed to be a moving meditation, to enable you to deepen your inner awareness. It is suitable for all levels of student.
    • Discover mudras that affect different areas of breathing, and also those that relate to each chakra
    • Participate in Mahat Yoga Pranayama (The nine-part Grand Yoga Breath) in conjunction with the Pranava AUM chant
    • Understand the nature of the chakras, their related elements, colours and Bija (seed) mantras
    • Practice a yoga sequence to bring these aspects together so a deeper awareness and understanding may be achieved
    • Join together in chakra mantra incorporating related mudras
    • Relax to a guided chakra meditation.
  • Hip openers are some of the most requested asanas in practice, virtually our entire practice on our mats could be viewed as one big ‘hip opening’ opportunity. Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent-up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives. As the title of the workshop pretty much says... the hips don’t lie!
