Many women ask whether it is safe to exercise whilst pregnant? It is very common to want to keep fit during pregnancy, why wouldn’t you? Doctors regularly advise to continue the exercise regime that you are used to although it is never safe to undertake new activities or push yourself.

However I see regularly in class women who continue their keep fit classes, and continue to run well into their Third Trimester, and I am wondering also: why would not you take a step back, not just for safety but also because Pregnancy is already the beginning of change and transformation of your life, time to make space for your new family member and adapt your needs to the needs of the family..

Yoga is widely recommended by healthcare practitioners to pregnant women in their pregnancy as a gently way to keep fit and healthy in pregnancy, to reduce pregnancy ailments such as poor sleep, vascular weakness, digestive sluggishness, back pain, hip pain, but also to relieve stress and support your emotional and mental self.

Whether you have practiced Yoga before or not, Pregnancy Yoga is available to you as soon as your pregnancy is well established. Hence we offer a 75 minutes Yoga session to expecting new mums in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters only (from week 14).

This form of Yoga focuses on the breath for general well-being, body awareness, connection, visualisation and relaxation with the view to prepare and open the body for birth, condition the mind for calmness, help you slow down, alleviate stress and anxiety, and start building a bond with your baby.

The emphasis on breathing makes space for the internal organs, relaxes the abdominal and pelvic floor diaphragms,  instils mindfulness, draws a higher level of oxygen into your body and therefore into the womb for you and your baby share one breath.

We encourage you to connect with your breath in class, and when you connect with your breath in pregnancy , you will be will be able to practice the exercises and techniques time and time again during your daily activities, hence creating a real support to draw upon not only during Labour, but also  in the early days to promote a good recovery and many times again in your life.

Our classes are available as part of a course which will provide the expecting new mum with a wide range of targeted exercises, breathing techniques and guided relaxation.

So…. Should I Exercise While Pregnant? in answer to your question , yes absolutely but all in moderation and never push yourself, always use professionals trained in prenatal care and … if you choose Pregnancy Yoga, you will also come across a wide range of techniques to help you not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.
