Detox is one of those words we tend to hear a lot at this time of year. The festive season might be well and truly over but getting back into a routine can still seem like an uphill battle. The icy cold weather leaves us feeling less like going to the gym and more like relaxing with a hot cup of tea and tucking into those left over sweets from Christmas!

What is a detox and does it really work?

There is a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding what ‘detox’ actually means. And the reality is that it’s not a quick fix plan. Forget about expelling your body of every toxin or inch off your waist. Rather try to think of it is as a kick-start solution. A successful detox programme should support the physical process of purification and motivate you to make better and healthier lifestyle choices overall.

Detoxing will gradually reduce toxicity and inflammation which build up overtime in the bodies tissues and cells. Eating unhealthy, processed foods and everyday exposure to harsh chemicals and pollution are just a few of the guilty culprits here.

However it’s not all doom and gloom! Our bodies actually possess the potential to reduce toxic waste and regenerate given the right nourishment, mindset and physical attention. And yoga is one of the best age old methods there is for purification. Working deep within our being, yoga positively impacts our attitude and actions for longer lasting detox effects.

Forget your bad habits and show your body and soul a little extra TLC with these powerful detox yoga flows…

I hope you’re feeling empowered to get healthy this January. Good luck on your detox journey yogis!
