Hatha Yoga Drop-in Class (60mins)

In this Hatha Yoga Drop-in Class, you will get to review or learn for the first time a variety of foundation postures. You will be able to develop an understanding of how to perform the posture and how to adapt or modify to suit your own body. You will also gain an appreciation of why we practise each posture, its benefits and effects that it has on the body and mind. The pace of the class is slow and much focus will be directed to the breath learning how to coordinate movement with the breath and to be guided by the breath throughout. This class is perfect for Beginners.

Hatha yoga which is a traditional style of Yoga that focuses on posture work (Asanas) and breath work (Pranayama).

Objectives
The Hatha Yoga Class will help students to learn for the first time, or for students with experience to deepen their understanding of a variety of postures. The course will be taught at a gentle pace, slowly working to explore foundation postures from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and supine positions. Students will be given the opportunity to extend themselves and explore more technical postures based on their ability.

These are the main postures that we will explore: Mountain Pose, Standing Forward Bend, Warriors and some of their variations, Triangle, Tree, Standing Twist, Cat Stretch to include variations, Downward Facing Dog, Bridge, Upward Leg Stretch, Lying Twist, back bends to include Cobra and Locust, Seated Forward bends and Seated Twist.

Students will be introduced to breath awareness techniques which will lay a foundation for the practice of Pranayama (Breathing) which are structured breathing exercises. The purpose of working with the breath is to enhance a sense mental and physical well-being which helps to relax not just the body but the mind too.

Each class will conclude with a guided relaxation and we will explore a variety of different techniques to include Progressive Muscular Relaxation, Autogenic Relaxation and Visualisation.
